Stretch and Surrender: #4: Neck Rotation

Benefits: Improves mobility of the neck. Increases neck flexibility. Great stretch for tasks that require neck mobility, such as backing up a car.

METHOD: Sit comfortably in a straight backed chair with feet flat on the floor. Grasp the sides of the chair for stability. Keep shoulders down and relaxed. Gently rotate your head to the left. Eyes can be open or shut. Chin should not go beyond your left shoulder. Do NOT overextend this stretch. Inhale and exhale deeply. Hold the stretch for 15-20 seconds. Return your head to center. Repeat by rotating your head to the right. Repeat 3-5 times on each side.

Tip: To increase the stretch, apply a gentle overpressure. Place two fingers on the side of the chin and push slightly in the direction of the stretch. Do not force this stretch.
