The Four Agreements: Part 1: Be Impeccable With Your Word

It sounds very simple, but it is very, very powerful. Be impeccable with your word. Why your word? Your word is the power that you have to create. Your word is the gift that comes directly from GOD. The gospel of John states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD". Through the word you express your creative power. It is through the word that you manifest everything.

The word is not a sound or a written symbol. The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby create the events of your life.

We are to never use our words to hurt or to harm others. This includes gossip and speaking poorly of others. It also means always telling the complete truth at all times. It means doing what you say you will do. This forms integrity.

Impeccability means it leads to life. Being impeccable with your word is not to use the word against yourself. If I love myself then I will express that love in all my interactions with you. That action will produce a like reaction from you. Being impeccable with your word is the correct use of your energy; it means the use your energy in the direction of truth and love for yourself.

If we adopt this first agreement, and become impeccable with our word, any emotional poison will eventually be cleaned away from our minds and from our communication in all of our personal relationships.
