In our hurried lives, we all want to feel good about the way we relate to and with others. We'd like to be thoughtful and kind toward those we love and are closest to, and courteous and kind toward others.
But, everyday pressures often get in the way. We encounter rudeness, selfishness, and aggression from others along the way. Sometimes, we respond in the same ways or perhaps may be guilty of the same behaviors. None of us likes to act in ways that causes us to feel guilty, embarrassed, defensive or regretful. We'd much rather be polite, honest, and kind toward others.
When we answer the question, "How do I wish to be treated?", we also answer the question, "What should I do?" The Golden Rule gives us a consistent frame of reference, a model to follow when we're unsure of how to deal with people. As we apply this traditional principle, we gain a measure of control over OUR behavior and act in a way more purposeful, caring, confident, and kind.
In this series, we will look at individual situations. I will offer my take on how we can respond to these situations in life with caring and kindness to others.
This series will begin tomorrow, Friday, June 5, 2009 here on my blog.
