The caffeine present in most soft drinks causes your body to become addicted to them over time.
Second only to coffee, soft drinks containing caffeine are the most consumed beverages by Americans. While many of us feel immune to the effects of caffeine on the body, it is in fact a drug that does impact your body's central nervous system. In fact, caffeine belongs to the same group of alkaloid chemicals such as morphine, nicotine, and cocaine. In addition to affecting the central nervous system, caffeine has been shown to increase insomnia, anxiety, nervousness, and irritability by those who consume it on a regular basis.
