People sit in Zazen for all the wrong reasons.
They sit for results--enlightenment.
They sit for experience--cosmic visions.
They sit for ego--"I can sit without moving longer than you can."
They sit for conversation--"I have meditated for so long, I am finally embracing the truths which are spoken of in the scriptures."
They sit to be seen as holy--all the great Sages meditated, didn't they?
Zazen is not about knowing.
Zazen is not about achieving.
Zazen is not about talking.
Zazen is not about being holy.
Zazen is not about undoing.
If you want to practice Zazen,
don't seek,
don't discuss,
and mostly--don't think.
Because thinking makes you want to be something more than the essence of egoless simplicity which Zazen is designed to embrace.
Think and be,
Don't think and "sit in Zen."
