Subconscious Mind Power #3

Subconscious Mind Power Secret #3:
The
subconscious is the part of the brain that handles the
autonomic functions of your body.

You don’t need to think about beating your heart, circulating your
blood, releasing hormones or digesting your food—all of those
things are taken care of automatically. And it’s a good thing too,
because the complexity of our bodies is mind boggling. If you’ve
ever taken a full semester course in anatomy and physiology, then you know what I’m talking about. So, your non-conscious brain
and nervous system help you out by handling a lot of your body’s
functions automatically.

This next part is extremely important: The subconscious is the
same part of your brain that handles automatic behaviors and
habits, and it has no problem developing new automatic behaviors and habits for you.

Driving a car, for example, is a highly unconscious activity. Even
though you’re awake and it requires conscious attention while
you’re driving, do you remember how complicated it seemed the
first time you tried to drive a stick shift? But after a while it
becomes second nature.

Research has proven that this is what the non-conscious mind does
best: It takes over routine tasks and helps you do them
automatically, or at least very easily with little conscious thought.
Dr. John Bargh of NYU and Dr. Tanya Chartrand of Duke
University are psychologists who specialize in non-conscious or
automatic influences on behavior and motivation. Based on their
research, they say that about 95% of our behavior is unconsciously
chosen. Ninety-five percent is a number that’s been passed around
the personal development industry for ages, and now we know science backs it up.
