Nirvana and Enlightenment #45

Siddhartha Gautama, the Sakyamuni Buddha, upon seeing poverty, illness, and death for the first time, left his wife, newborn child, and life of royalty to go on a quest to understand the meaning of life. He travelled India for seven years as a Sadhu, a wandering holy man, studying spiritual traditions in hopes of unveiling the truth.

Frustrated by not finding the ultimate meaning of life , he sat down under a Bodhi Tree, in Gaya, India and swore he would not get up until he obtained enlightenment. Thirty days later he rose an enlightened being.

How many people over the centuries have attempted to do what the Buddha did--sit, lost deeply in meditation and obtain realization?

How many people have sat for days, weeks, months, even years and have not experienced enlightenment?

The road to NIRVANA is different for each individual.
Chart your own path.
