George Washington Carver (January 1864 – January 5, 1943), an American botanist and inventor who was born into slavery, revolutionized the previously cotton-based agriculture of the Southern United States through his research into and promotion of peanuts and sweet potatoes. He is noted for inventing or commercializing over 100 varied products made from peanuts.
