PACING AND LEADING
This NLP technique is frequently useful, for example, when you are with someone who is distressed. You utilize pacing to match the pace of the other person's speech, only discussing the next topic when he or she is ready to move on.
It is often described as PACE, PACE, PACE, and then LEAD the conversation. It has been said that we are created with two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak!
Imagine that something has upset you. Before you're able to think rationally about it, you often need to "get it off your chest" by talking it through with a friend or colleague. Pacing works in a similar way. You need to allow someone to say what is important to them first, before you begin discussing your agenda.
