Fish and Cancer

Reduce your risk of colon cancer by feasting on fish. Eating three or more servings a week could help keep you free of colon polyps.

You might not think much about the health of your colon, but here’s why you should: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the U.S. Luckily, what you put on your plate could help lower your chances of getting it. According to a new study, those who feast on fish at least three times a week may be able to reduce their risk of colon cancer. The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that a diet rich in fatty fish lowered the chances of developing colon polyps — growths on the intestinal lining that could develop into cancer.
Those who ate plenty of fish also showed lower levels of an inflammation-related hormone known as prostaglandin E2, which has been linked to cancer. Good choices of omega-3-rich fish include salmon, tuna and sardines.
