Cancer and Nutrition

Did you know that 41 percent of Americans will get cancer in their lifetime? And just half of those diagnosed will survive. While that might sound scary, new recommendations from the American Cancer Society suggest that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can increase your odds of beating cancer long-term.
Eating right, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight can help keep some cancers — especially prostate, breast and colorectal — from returning.
A healthy diet should include plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean poultry and fish instead of red meat. Keep refined grains, sugars, syrups, deep-fried foods, and processed meats to a minimum or, better yet, nix them altogether. If you’ve recently done battle with cancer, keep in mind that doing everything you can to stay healthy can help your long-term prognosis.
