Mindfulness Training and Pain

Pain can be
Decreased
if you
think
POSITIVELY...

Can thinking positively reduce pain? Can thinking about your loved ones do the same?

According to two separate university studies, the answer is yes.
One new study had individuals focusing on images of their loved one while experiencing painful situations, and the perception of the pain was significantly lower.

Another studied the perception of pain and the effects of various mental training techniques and has found that relatively short and simple mindfulness meditation training can have a significant positive effect on pain management.

In this study at the University of North Carolina, it was found that a single hour of mindfulness training spread over a three day period, can produce the same kind of analgesic effect. It was published in the Journal of Pain, current issue.

What do you think about all day long? And how does focusing on the positive help us change what we are experiencing in our world?

Emerson said we become what we think about all day long. If thinking positive can change the perception of pain, then perhaps we should be considering that conditioning the mind, just as we do the body, should both be essential for wellness and success in our work, play and sport.
