Yogurt and Our Immune System

Add yogurt to your diet to help fortify your immune system and aid digestion.
Choose products labeled “live and active cultures.”

Want to give your immune system a boost? Yogurt that hasn’t been pasteurized contains healthy microorganisms called probiotics that help promote healthy digestion and protect against harmful bacteria.
Small studies have shown that they can prevent colds and traveler’s diarrhea and even treat infant colic. The bacteria that are good for your gut can also be found in other fermented foods, like miso (a soybean paste used in Japanese soup), tempeh (fermented soybeans) and kefir (a yogurt-like drink that tastes like a smoothie).
When buying yogurt, look for products that contain live and active cultures. When using probiotics to treat medical conditions, make sure to discuss this with your doctor.
