Socializing

Keep your mind sharp as you age – socialize often. One study found that the most social seniors had one-quarter the cognitive decline.
What’s the worst thing you can do for your brain as you get older? Become a hermit. According to a study in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, which tracked 1,138 elderly adults for five years, the most socially active seniors had just one-quarter the amount of cognitive decline as those who were the least social.

Visiting friends, going to church, spending time with neighbors and volunteering are all great ways to get active in your community. Because exercise can also help stave off memory problems, joining a group exercise class may offer extra brain-boosting credit.
