How Healthy Is Your Breakfast Cereal?

Think you’re eating a healthy breakfast? Depending on what breakfast cereal you choose, you could be eating one that’s 50 percent sugar by weight!
A study by the Environmental Working Group found that several cereals — mostly ones mostly marketed to kids — have as much sugar as a Twinkie or three Chips Ahoy cookies! Some of the worst offenders: Honey Smacks, Golden Crisp, Cap’n Crunch, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks.
Still, some seemingly healthful options like Wheaties Fuel, Honey Nut Cheerios and Quaker Oats Oh!s are just as loaded with the sweetener.
When shopping for a good breakfast option, choose cereals that are high in fiber and whole grains.
Skip any item that lists sugar or high-fructose corn syrup as one of the first three ingredients.

Still the best, even over most so-called healthy cereals at pricey new age stores, is Post Shredded Wheat, no sugar, no salt, simple.
