Chronic Pain and Meditation

Chronic aches and pains getting you down?
A regular meditation practice may help you cope with physical discomfort.

People who routinely practice mindfulness meditation may be able to take the sting out of chronic pain.
A University of Manchester study found that those who meditate often could handle pain better than people who don’t meditate, because they were able to redirect their attention away from unpleasant sensations. The longer people had been practicing meditation, the greater the benefit. A similar study last year showed meditators were able to tolerate 18 percent more pain than non-meditators.
