Extending

Researchers examining the personalities of those who live well into their 90s and 100s found that near-centenarians are upbeat, social and laugh easily. They share their emotions as they arise, instead of stifling them. Dwelling on things or burying your feelings can increase stress levels and lead to depression, which is linked to health issues like heart disease. Learning how to manage your stress — whether by spending time with supportive friends, doing yoga, going on long walks or bike rides, volunteering, or working on artistic endeavors — can help keep you happy, and possibly even extend your life.
